What to do before installing your eSIM plan

Last updated: December 4, 2025

Use this checklist before starting installation to avoid errors and failed activations.

Pre-installation checklist

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi

    • Make sure you have a strong, stable internet connection (eSIMs cannot be activated without Wi-Fi).

  2. Update your device software

    • Install the latest version of iOS or Android before adding your eSIM.

  3. Confirm eSIM compatibility

    • Check if your device supports eSIM using our Device Compatibility Guide.

  4. Check carrier lock status

    • Your phone must be unlocked.

    • iPhone: Settings > General > About > Carrier Lock → “No SIM restrictions” = unlocked.

    • Android: Contact your carrier or test with another SIM card.

  5. Have your installation method ready

    • QR code, activation link, or in-app install flow.

    • If you're using QR code, keep it handy on another device or screen if you’ll need to scan it.

Important notes

  • eSIMs are single-use: once installed on a device, they can’t be reinstalled on another.

  • If you accidentally delete your eSIM, you’ll need to request a replacement.

  • Some devices may need you to temporarily disable another SIM to complete activation.
