What are the restrictions to my travel eSIM?

The Gigs travel eSIM provided through the Wealthsimple perk is subject to the following restrictions and limitations. Understanding these will help ensure a smooth experience during your travels:

  • Data Only: This is a data-only eSIM. It does not include a phone number, talk minutes, or text messaging (SMS) capabilities.

    • Tip: You can still make calls and send messages using data-based applications like WhatsApp, FaceTime, or iMessage.

  • Data Limit: Your data allotment is a hard limit of 10 GB of high-speed data.

  • No Top-Ups or Upgrades: Once the 10 GB limit is reached, there is no option to purchase more data or upgrade the plan.

  • Subscription Term & Expiration: The eSIM perk is valid for 12 months from the date you claimed it as your Wealthsimple Milestone Reward.

    • The subscription will not automatically renew and is a one-time free service.

  • Single-Device Use: The eSIM profile can only be installed on one device, one time. If you delete the eSIM or get a new device, you will need to contact Gigs support (via this form or chat on this page) to request a new QR code for reinstallation.

  • Coverage: The eSIM is only usable in the currently covered countries (over 160 countries).

  • Data Roaming Requirement: You must enable Data Roaming for the Gigs eSIM in your device settings for the service to work while traveling.

    • Important: We recommend you disable Data Roaming for your primary (home) SIM to avoid unexpected roaming charges from your regular carrier.
