How do I know if my device is unlocked?
Last updated: September 29, 2025
Your device must be carrier unlocked to use a travel eSIM. An unlocked device can use SIMs or eSIMs from any carrier, while a locked device only works with the carrier that sold it.
Quick ways to check:
iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About. Scroll to Carrier Lock. If it says No SIM restrictions, your device is unlocked.
Android:
On many devices, go to Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks (or Network & Internet > Mobile Network) and look for a “Network Lock” or “SIM status” field. If it says your device is locked, you’ll need to contact your carrier.
Alternatively, insert a SIM card from another carrier. If you can place a call or use data, your device is unlocked.
If you’re still unsure, the most reliable way is to contact your carrier and confirm your unlock status.
